If the only feedback that students got on their writing was from me, they would have only one other set of eyes on their work. One thing we are trying to do in NS&E is peer feedback via sticky notes. Giving feedback which is kind, helpful, and specific, takes practice.  Students read several of their peers feedback on their first Engineering Journal Prompt, anything that didn’t hit the mark for being kind, helpful, and/or specific went to “The Sticky Note Graveyard”.
